I dropped my 5 and it cracked and no I'm not attributing anything to it being a weak phone or crap, totally my fault, the question is the Genius Bar should have replacements readily available right?

It's not going to be covered under the warranty. If anything assuming they have replacements you will need to pay full price.

Apple Care or carrier insurance are your only hope.

Warranty won't (and shouldn't) cover you if you drop the phone.

I don't think you need an entire new phone if just the screen is cracked. They have replaced screens before. I think just a screen replacement is something like $99 bucks or something.

if you paid with credit card it may have 90 day protection via the credit card company.

Use apple care. I you don't have it just call apple and add it. Then you can make a claim and save some cash. Is $99 for apple care and $49.00 for a replacement. That's better than $229.00 for a replacement without AppleCare

That's called insurance fraud if the OP doesn't already have it. I doubt the OP wants to commit a felony to save $80.

If you don't buy AppleCare when you purchase the phone I'm pretty sure you have to have it inspected at the Genius Bar to add it.
