I fell skating around campus today. My phone was in my pocket; I landed on it; the screen's cracked all over. Everything works fine, though.

What's the cheapest, legit way to get the screen replaced/fixed?

I realize you're quoting the OOW replacement price, but aren't they able to just switch out a screen for much less? I've heard of Genii doing that.

You're probably correct.
I dont know if many geniouses and customers know about just the screen replacement thing instead of the whole iphone replacement deal. Not sure how much they charge though.

I know there's a guy here in the Houston area that comes to you place of business (or home), and replaces the screen for $75 in about 20 minutes.

My apple store the OOW costs $199 and they replace the entire iPhone. But if it cracked glass, or LCD, they replace the display assembly. That ALSO COSTS $199 even if they don't replace the phone.

Any chance Apple would replace the screen for free if/when I buy a laptop from one of their stores?

Same thing happened to me. Guy said 199 and they just replace the screen.

We were chatting about the new MB/MBP and things, ended up doing it for free.

Thanks guys. I'm going to try to get an Apple Genius to do it for free. If (when) that fails, I found a dude on craigslist near me that can do it for $50.

But, is it something I absolutely need to get replaced now? I'm fine with simply having a cracked, but functional screen. I don't know, though, if it will get worse and deteriorate over time to where I can't use the phone.

Do you guys know? Hold off or fix it fast?

Amazon.com. The screen and digitizer replacement is $12! It takes about an hour if you slowly walk your way through it with the online youtube videos. It really isn't that hard. I just did mine about 2 or 3 weeks ago. I'm planning on opening it back up again to clean out some of the dust I left in there. But otherwise, it works great!

Doubtful it's original apple glass...be cautious of the super cheap glass. It will either:

a) fail in the next couple months
b) touch not be as good as the original

Have you done this? How cheap is that glass? (Or, how easily will it break again?)

amazon sells knock off glass. I have seen them and like it was said they are not OEM and usually fail after some time. Make sure if you are going the craigslist route that you see the word APPLE written clearly on the #2 connector on the new glass. Also make sure that you get a full adhesive strip not just the two ends.
