I have one of the original 8GB iPhones, it has had the odd bump or two as has my other phones in the past.

Anyway a couple of months ago I noticed a small row (No bigger than 3cm long) of white pixels, cutting across the 'Phone' text on bottom menu of the home screen.

Today the number of these white pixels have grown and it isn't a straight line across, they have spread slightly above and below the text. It now extends to the 'iPod' text.

Has anyone else had this and is this likely to continue spreading on my iPhone screen until it is no longer usable?

Something is certainly failing and if its still in warranty, I'd bring it to an apple store for them to examine or figure out if its time to upgrade to a 3GS at this point.

Being an original 8GB iPhone, it's highly unlikely it's under warranty at this point.

However, the OP is probably eligible to upgrade. The 8GB iPhone 3G is $99 now. Probably cheaper than the repair costs would likely be.
