Cracked screen on 2012 iPad, what to do?

Hi everyone, my father-in-law cracked the screen on his older iPad, model A1460. Does anyone have any experience with trying to get Apple to provide a discount on a new device? I've read that they might offer a 10% discount on a similar device, but I'm wondering if anyone has done this.

It's a bit unrealistic in my opinion to ask for anything after you (the customer) breaks a working device that is 3 years out of warranty in most countries. On the other hand, check out if there are any reduced offers from Black Friday available in your local electronic retailers.
