My uncle has an iPhone 14 Pro Max. He just cracked his screen bad. He’s on the iPhone upgrade program and is about to pay off 2 years into the 3 year lease cycle.

Does Verizon allow you to trade in cracked screens as part of the upgrade program (I heard they don’t care really…is that true?)

And, if he traded in the phone this September and only had two years paid off, would he still be eligible for those crazy upgrade promotions Verizon has been offering if the phone isn’t fully paid off..?
 
I don't think anyone accepts a phone for trade in or upgrade that has a badly cracked screen. Considering he doesn't own the phone he'll either have to have it repaired or pay it off completely and then try to trade it in or sell it as is

I thought Verizon is much more lenient with damaged screens at trade in? He has Verizon

I have Verizon also. I would advise him to contact Verizon to get clarification. He still hasn't paid off his device so the phone isn't actually his. I know they have promotions every once and awhile where you can trade in phones in any condition but your uncle is on a Verizon upgrade plan and I'm not sure that qualifies for early trade in.
 
One of conditions for early upgrade as per Verizon is
  • Return the eligible smartphone in good working condition with no significant damage, as determined by Verizon, within 30 days after you upgrade.
So broken screed does count as good working condition.

As per terms and conditions:


  1. If you do not return your eligible device when upgrading, or if it is not returned to us in good working condition, in each case the remaining balance under your original device payment agreement will be due on your next bill. Good working condition requires, among other things, that your returned device powers on and off, does not have a cracked screen, has no significant damage as determined by Verizon, and has all password-protected security features (e.g., Find My iPhone) turned off.
 
"According to the rules" the phone has to be in working order and a cracked screen wouldn't fly. But Verizon is in the business of selling their service and they'll often make exceptions. Talk to Verizon, not MR, about it.
