Ugh! I closed the lid on my Macbook without noticing there was a plastic marker lid on the keyboard! It cracked the screen. I wasn't a huge fan of this Macbook, it's so glitchy, but I was hoping to sell it in good condition and buy a 2020 of the same model. What would you do from here?

Also, the Apple geniuses said it shows it's had water damage. It NEVER was exposed to any liquid. I think it is from using it on the patio in the very humid area I live in. Would this reduce the value?

A) Sell it as is on eBay? It functions great (well, as good as it did new) and a buyer could replace the screen or connect to a monitor. I looked into selling it to a refursher online and they'd only give me $20 with a cracked screen.
B) Replace the screen then sell it.
C) Replace the screen and keep it. I'm not sure if the 2020 is worth the cost of upgrading. Is it much better than the 2017?
D) Sell it as is and buy a new Dell for much less with a lot more power (sorry guys. it is an option in my mind). I gave up on pc's 3 years ago and bought this because I got one virus or malware issue after the other on pc.

Thanks for your input!

I guess it all comes down to how much will it cost to replace the screen versus how much you can get for it. If it costs more to replace the screen then what you could sell it for, it's not worth it.
If you are happy with the machine, either replace the screen or connect it to a monitor and use it that way till you are ready to buy a new one.
If you really like Macs, I'm not sure how happy you would be with a PC.

You said "it's so glitchy" but then you said "it functions great". I find that a bit confusing but I'll assume that if it were reset to factory that it would work fine.

You could convert it to a desktop device for family member or friend. There are plenty of how-to videos on Youtube on how to do that using an external display, mouse, and keyboard.

You could use it as a media server... install something like Plex on it, attached an external drive. It could remain closed and use screen sharing from another Mac device to access it when you need to. (I did this with an iMac when its harddrive died... I have it tucked away under my desk and use my current iMac to access it.)

As for a replacement, believe it or not, there are still new 2017 Macbook Airs being sold if you like the "classic" aspects of that unit. I picked an i7 model a while ago at a great price.

Yes, I guess that was confusing. My main issue is it fights me during start up. I power it on and it gets stuck on the log in screen and won't let me type in my passowrd. Sometimes I have to reboot it or wait maybe 5 minutes and it'll let me log on. Then, it does this updating think before it let's me access the desktop. The update takes another 2-3 minutes or longer. It gets frustrating since this is EVERY time I have to log in after it sleeps.
These "glitches" seem to be worse right after I update to a new OS. I've had 3 OS versions in 3 years and dread the change each time. Is this typical of most macs? I was a pc user for over 20 years (they are way more glitchy!) so I'm not really familiar with Macs.
Also, I read online that 2017 Macbook Pros had more issues than other years. Again, I I don't know much about this since I've only had a Mac for 3 years. Besides the startup issues it runs great.
