First thing to try is a memory test. I don't know if there are any OSX tools for this, though.
 
In Disk Utility click the Verify disk button. If it says you have problems do the following:

Restart holding down Command+S

When the prompt appears type fsck -fy and hit return.
Your disk will be inspected and repaired if necessary.
Type reboot and hit return.
