Hello,

I've got a year old iMac that the hard drive crashed. Just goes to grey screen. I tried to repair the permissions off the OS X disk and it wouldn't let me. I order a repair program and put the CD in and held "C" to get it to start from the disk. The Mac tried to start from the CD and then ejected it. Now it's ejecting the OS X CD as well. Hope somebody has and idea on how to help.

Thanks.

Try:

SMC reset
PRAM reset.

Insert your OSX (that came with your computer) and hold down the option key as soon as you boot and keep holding until you see the blue screen (boot loader). Select the OSX partition.

If that doesn't work, try again, but this time select the Apple Hardware test and run both the Quick and Extended tests. You may have another problem other than the HD failure.
