I hope somebody has any idea what might be going on with my iMac. I am running OS X 10.4.9 and have had no problems since ditching windows last year and purchasing a Mac. Until the last few weeks that is. I seem to be suffering lots of program crashes with firefox, imovie HD, MSN, and pretty much most other apps with the exception of Safari and Mail.

I also used to run Clean App but it stopped working, the icon would just bounce repeatedly and the hard drive would groan slowing the mac down to an unusable state. Even with the latest version of Clean App I can not get it to run and have to force quit every time.

Does anybody have any idea what I should test on my system to see if I have any problems or would a clean install be the answer?

Look forward to any help or ideas.

Andrew

How much RAM and hard drive space is in your computer? Try a program called Onyx. Have you tried just restarting the computer?

3GB Ram and a 750GB hard drive with 489GB Free. I have Onyx and run all scripts etc but still not improving the system. Its very strange system feels really slow at the moment.

You may have to do an archive and reinstall. Sorry, i dont know what else could be the problem, before you try that see what other people post. Good luck man.

What do you have in your startup items?

I'd also remove this 'Clean App' entirely if it's broken - use spotlight to make sure you got it all.

WRT maintenance apps - if it aint broke, don't fix it. I have never needed to help OS X take care of itself.
