Every now and then, typically during a step workout, my heartbeat isn't logged correctly.
The graph can take any shape, if at all.
I'm guessing that somehow my Apple Watch (SE) doesn't quite understand my body movements.

Does anyone have had the same issue, or a better explanation for this ?
Furthermore, is there a way to avoid this awkward logging ?

It might be that the watch is too loose. Try wearing it tighter and also a little higher up the arm (further from the hand).
How do you get the watch to stay high up the arm? Doesn't it fall back down when you lower your arm?

Glue :)

No, with the strap tight enough, just a bit of gentle pressure pushing the watch upwards and the friction holds it there. I use a Nike sports band and it stays in place pretty well.

Huh. Doesn't work that way for me. I push it up, and sooner or later it comes down.
 
My guess is also that looseness may be causing that, keeping the watch snug to the wrist during workouts may help. I'd also double-check your orientation. I got some odd heart readings once when I'd swapped the watch to my other wrist without updating that information in orientation.

Many thanks Howard2k, excellent advice indeed. But I dare say that I do both suggestions already a long time.
In fact, when I take off my watch, there's a wee indent of the band visible on my arm, so I trust it's tight enough.

Also (and forgive me for not mentioning this before), the heart rate from my walking workout is logging fine.
