Earlier today I was busy playing a game on my mac mini, when my mum turned on an old lamp. Well the light bulb in the lamp litrally exploded!. There was glass everywhere!.

Meanwhile, the lights were flashing crazy, my mac turned off, my monitor was repeatedly turning it's self on and off, and there was some scary static/buzzing noises coming from my plugs!.

I had my mini and monitor plugged into a surge protector, but the protector is quite old now, and I'm not sure if it actually did anything protection-wise, for my mini and monitor.

The wiring in the house isn't exactly known for being stable, and since the bulb incident, the lights have flickered a few times, so I think maybe something somewhere has got damaged...

I have unplugged the mini completely, to stop any more risk of it getting damaged, and I'm going to take it round my brother's, and plug it in there, to see if my mini is still working. But even if it does turn on ok around my bro's house, is there anything I can do to check if it's been damaged at all?

I read something about a hardware test, but it mentioned using CDs, and my mini didn't come with any CDs (its a mac mini 2011). Is there a way to do the hardware test on the new minis?, is there anything else I should do, to make sure it's all ok?

Ps. I'v ordered a UPS, so hopefully nothing this scary will happen again. (if only I ordered 1 sooner...:()
