Can you actually turn OFF an iPhone? What I mean is, all my old-school dumb phones, you can just turn them off. There was no sleep mode, etc. You turned them on when you wanted to use them, and if you wanted it off, you turned it off.

I see there is a sleep/wake button on the iPhone. Is that the same as an on/off button. For example, when it's in sleep, and a call comes in, does it wake up and ring? I'd expect it would. So is there a way to shut the iPhone off?

Hold the power button down for a few seconds and get the slide to power off screen. Viola, it is truly powered off and not in standby/sleep mode.

Hold down the sleep button for a couple seconds, and then slide the red thing to power off.

You hold down the off button for a few seconds and it will prompt you to turn it off.

Edit: Oh well you will probably get a lot of answers on this one. :)

Hold the sleep button, wait a few seconds and slide to shut off.

I blend mine.

Just kidding, I hate those videos already.

Seriously, did we need 10 responses detailing the same action?

You can also hold the sleep/wake button and home button to force the phone to turn off. Useful when the phone isn't responding.

When the phone is asleep (when you tap the sleep/wake button), calls will obviously come in; your screen doesn't have to be on to receive calls...
