I have a bunch of home movies on my computer, that I wanna add to a DVD. I want to be able to have a DVD menu so I can select which one I wanna watch.

How can I easily do it? Is there a program that comes with a mac or a free program that'll do it?

That's what I thought, but it keeps telling me it's in the wrong format.

What format do I need to convert my movies into so it'll go into imovie?

QuickTime (.mov) using the Apple Intermediate Codec (AIC) for video and Uncompressed for audio, you can use MPEG Streamclip and its Batch List (CMD+B) to do so with several files.
You can also use MRoogle to search MR Forums to find dozens of similar threads.

Thanks.

Do you know if it's possible for me to put my own picture as the background in the menu? iDVD has alot of premade menus and I would love to use my own picture.
