Hi,

I need to create an FTP server on a mbp running on 10.7

If I go into System Preferences>File Sharing and enable FTP it works fine but I Need to get an IP address for my application and it only tells me to connect via ftp://mobile/ which doesn't help me.

So how do I get or assign an IP address to the FTP server?

Thanks

Apple has disabled the gui to enable the ftp server in 10.7. It's there. It's available as sftp. They think this is better and so do I. The problem is I have a $300 printer that doesn't know how to do sftp and I don't want to buy a new one. So I found the commands to enable ftpd and wrote an app for those that don't want to bother with terminal commands. The app is linked in my sig. The app doesn't put up your IP (yet) but it will soon. I'm glad I found this thread!

Here is a link to an article on finding your IP address.
