There & Back Again
Hey there, I'm wondering if you guys can help me out here!

I have CS3 now, and so I don't have Image Ready anymore, but I was looking for a program or simple method to make animated .gifs with smooth transitions such as fades between the images. I don't know Flash all that well, and am not all that great with coding.

Plus the website I am working on is a little delicate for me getting anything but a .gif or jpeg in there.

Have any of you encountered a program such as this?

Thanks!

Hi there jonnysods :)

You can use Adobe Photoshop to do this. In doing away with Image Ready, they built in several of the useful features into Photoshop and some others into Fireworks. You can get the animation toolbar to appear by going to 'Window' -> 'Animation'. If your familiar with the Image Ready animation panel, this should be like an old friend.

If, however, you aren't sure what to do with this, then say so and I'll try and put a tutorial together for you to look at tomorrow!

Cheers

Doug ;)

Fireworks

If you have CS3, did you get a copy of Fireworks? If you did, that is also an option. Fireworks has many great tools for doing animated GIF's.

Wow!

Thanks Doug! That's quite an offer you are making! I haven't used ImageReady before, so the animation tool isn't something I'm altogether familiar with, but I can learn quick!

Thanks for doing this for me - I love the MR community! :)

Bummer about Fireworks. I got the Design Premium, not the Web Premium or Master. I have thought about getting the CS4 MC because I'm doing just as much web work as I am doing graphics, but man the price is a killer!

No prob :) What are you actually trying to do? So I can make sure I show you correct stuff... images blending into each other for a slide show type effect?

Amazing

Doug, thank you so much for that advice! I've now got an animated gif rocking! You are the man!

I love your work by the way - amazing designs and sites.

And, I absolutely love your signature - I use that saying all the time :D

Happy to help :) My resulting image is now there too.

And thanks for the compliments - they mean a lot

Let me know if you need anything else..

-Doug

P.S. Bob Gill rocks

I just wanted to thank Doug also. I usually pull out an old copy of ImageReady for the occasions I need to make animated GIFs. I haven't even bothered to research PS CS3's capability in this area.
This is great to know.

Excellent, glad you found it useful :) Just trying to cary on the spirit of MacRumors that has helped me in the past and continues to help me today ...
