In case anyone is wondering here is how to create custom tones on a jailbroken iphone. I was frustrated trying to figure this out since there were no posts on the internet I could find so wanted to share with everyone.

Set itunes import preferences at AAC
Add mp3 to iTunes.
Right click on mp3 and select “Convert to AAC”
Right click on new file and click on “Show in finder”
Rename file from .m4a to .m4r
copy the file to /private/var/stash/Ringtones.tFBGVO as Stargaze.m4r (Note that you need to overwrite an existing tone for this to work)
chmod 664 Stargaze.m4r
Go to Settings->Sounds->Text Tone and select Stargaze.m4r

There's a tweak in cydia called ToneEnabler that allows you to drop .m4r files in that same directory without changing permissions or overwriting files FYI. Thanks for the write up
