Creating a @me.com address?

I sold my iPhone 4 and is still waiting for the 4S. I lent my iPad to my mother. When iCloud launches I will have no iOS device. Can I still make a @me.com address with my Mac?
If you have Lion, you can reserve your address now, but you won't be able to use it just yet.
Ok, apparently ios5 isn't the only thing leaked for download. Lion Developer preview as well as icloud and many others are available online. Google will give you many hits. Download at your own risk. I have the ios5 on my ipad and was able to migrate my mobile me account to icloud just now at me.com/move

I was able to setup my .me email account when I installed iOS 5 GM on my iPad, it was part of the startup process. It's one of the benefits to installing the GM before everyone else gets iOS 5 and takes up all the user names. I was actually able to register mylastname@me.com...nice, clean, and professional. I'll probably start using it as my main email and ease away from my gmail account.

It's not going to let you.
I have a gmail account that I use with iTunes and after I setup my @me.com account, I went to my iTunes account and tried to change the primary email to the .me account and it said I cant use a .me account as the main one. I was able to ad it as a secondary email on the account and can log into iTunes using it, but the gmail is still the main one.
Doh!

EDIT - I wonder if you can change the primary email address on your iTunes account to a me.com email address that doesn't exist yet. Then create the me.com address.
That's got massive potential to go up it's own exhaust pipe like, but you never know!
You have to install the iCloud beta thing. Which puts it in the System Prefs, under Mail, Contacts & Calendars
