I have an iMac with basic iPhoto and iMovie pre-installed software. How do I do a photo slide show with music? Which program? Do I need to upgrade software?
Thanks

You can do this in iMovie or iPhoto. If you want more control over when the audio plays, etc., you'll need to use iMovie. If you just want to use one song, iPhoto should suffice.

Using iPhoto: http://www.apple.com/findouthow/photos/#slideshow

I watched the tutorial and I do not have a "slideshow" button. Doe shtiks mean I need to upgrade?

You must have an earlier version of iPhoto (08?)

What you want to do is select an event or a photo and click the + button. When that dialog box opens up select Slideshow. You'll now have a new slideshow created (you'll see it in the left pane). You can add more photos there. To play back, click the play button. To Export it as a movie, make sure the Slideshow is selected and click File > Export

This might help (Chapter 3):
