Creating a .zip archive in a different location?

I want to create a backup of my itunes folder, but when I alt-drag to my external hard drive, it stops half way

So, maybe I could create an archive of the library and move that. Trouble is, there's not enough room on the iTunes disk to create an archive of it

Is there any way to create an archive of a set of files in a different location?

I would use a 3rd party zip utility. The built-in one doesn't support different target folders, I think. This one looks nice.
