I remember a while back someone posted a program that can delete a lot of the excess HD space that comes with installing OS X.

I have 12.2 GB left of room, so I figure now is as good a time as ever to find that program and get to about 30 GB. Anyone know what it is I'm talking about or have any other suggestions for gaining back some HD space?

  • Search for OnyX
  • Monolingual (deletes excess languages not used; use with caution)
  • Search programs you deleted in Spotlight, and delete the left over files.
  • Go throught your music/videos and delete what you dont listen to anymore.
  • Get an external HD
  • Upgrade your current HD to a bigger one.

Even though Monolingual will delete your languages, be warned that it can mess up your system as much as an ergometer can mess up a fat kid. Don't delete any of the coding (universal, Intel or PPC) or any of the English languages and you should be fine though.

so I was supposed to keep all of the "English (Australia), English (New Zealand)..." etc. etc.?

Oops.

I kept "English" (not even the United States one) and Spanish.

You might be fine (although I'm not sure about the US English bit), it's just that it's probably safer to keep them all. Nevertheless, see how it goes. If things start acting strangely, then you'll know you weren't supposed to delete the US English language. :)
