Creating home pages on Mac

I am new to html, but would like to create my own home pages.

First I tried writing a few lines of html but that was not very thrilling. Then I tried the Composer in Netscape; a big improvement. I also heard about Homepage on .Mac but I have not seen it.

I am interested in free tools and tutorials. All help and comments are appreciated.
