Creating iMovie dream-like shimmering video effect

I'm trying to create a video effect in iMovie where the lead character is having a dream and you see him shimmering... kinda like what they did in the movie "The Butterfly Effect". How can I do that in iMovie?

Not sure in terms of video effects but there's an photo effect called Gaussian which makes it "dream like".

Hi Lunfai, thanks for the reply, but that's not what I'm talking about. It's kinda like the earthquake effect in FCPX but more dream-like shaking.
