So I picked up the 256gb M5 iPP a few days ago and I have almost used half of the storage (Genshin Impact, Procreate) photos and garage band are almost 2 gb.... this is without adding any other kind of files.

So I am wanting to make some videos on Final Cut Pro - and maybe use Affinity Suite on it - but I might just use my 13" iPP or MacBook for the latter. Both are M1's..... But I do like the idea of using the new iPP for this.

I DON'T want to be short on storage, been there, done that with the first iPad I purchased. I don't want to have to delete file just to play a new game etc. I do have 256gb M2 air and did not use a lot of space on it. But I am using it more for consumption - reading, watching YouTube, Goodnotes etc....

So would I be better with 512 or 1TB? I did notice the other day, that I have used about 500 gb in my 2018 and M1 iPP (1 TB each). But that is after 5-7 years.

Back when I was facing the same call on iPhone storage, the easiest way I made my decision on more storage was if I would use it during the life of the product. I often skipped out on 512gb or even 256gb (before 4k video and such), I feel like if I traded it in next year or ever 2, and never filled it, i had wasted money for something I never used. Still give some headroom, but not go overboard. Though, now that I’ve kept my iPhone 14 Pro so long, I wish I had more, between downloads, editing Insta360 videos, transferring dash cam footage, etc). But, technically I made 256 work until the very end, 3 years, and as I’m now nearing an another upgrade next year, I can just more storage.

In your own example, if it takes you 5-7 years till 500, if you had the same happen on an iPad, you may be looking to upgrade again and storage may be have increased at that point. Though, you may fill the 500 or so faster this time around due to higher res content and more complex games.

In the case of my iPad, I have an iPad Pro 13 2018 256gb cellular model. I never used it as much as I thought, heavy and bulky, life got in the way, etc., So, storage was fine. Considering I kept it for nearly 7 years, and how much has changed since then, I decided to go crazy with a M5 13 1tb / cellular this time (plus the extra core and 4gb of memory extended life). If I keep it just as long, and utilize it a lot more (loading content for more traveling, creative, games), I may easily use 512gb quickly. Also, it helped that MicroCenter was 10% off and became roughly a $360 decision to double storage and question if I’d regret it after 2-3 years).

I still cannot comprehend it’s about as much as a MacBook Pro M5 24gb 1tb laptop and I still don’t got a keyboard / trackpad yet.

Well I now have a 2TB m4 coming from t-mobile! Really great deal!
I just posted right as you made your decision. That sounds like a nice option if the M4 is fine for you and you got a good deal on the older model for 2tb.

The M5 13 1TB Cellular Unlocked was $1889 at MicroCenter, what was it for the M4 2Tb}B Verizon model?
