Creator codes or replacement in Lion?

UTIs have been around since Tiger, and have been recommended for use since Leopard, instead of creator codes. Snow Leopard no longer respects these codes in determining what application should open a file... so I doubt anything terribly significant has changed in this regard in Lion.
