I am currently developing credit card software for the Macintosh. This software will allow retail, phone-order and Internet business's to accept credit cards on their Macintosh. As far as I know there hasn't been a stand alone Mac software that could do this since MacAuthorize which went out of business 4 years ago. I am trying to find out what the demand would be for this software. Anyone have any ideas what the best way to test this market would be?

I would like to see this. I'd also like to see a creditable business accounts package that doesn't tie in to one company, that will let me run a till and hook up to a stock control system using SQL. Then i can buy a couple of imacs, tills and scanners and have everything I need in one, integrated package.

Heck, I'd even sell it for you!

Thanks for the feedback. Check out POSIM (Point of Sale Inventory Management) at www.posim.net. This sounds like what you are looking for.

how does the apple store do it? and whats the merits of this program over having a separate credit card machine?

The benefit of software is it can be used to integrate with accounting and POS packages. It could also approve credit cards faster because it does not have to use a modem like a credit card terminal. It would also be cheeper than a terminal.

I'm not sure I understand your question "How does the apple store do it?"

There is credit card software for Macs now...

I only say this, because my company makes it. Take Charge is platform independent. We originally did this for the basic reason that there is not enough business software for Macs.

Anyone can take a look at it via www.merchantconsulting.com.

The nice thing about Macs and Cocoa is that if you develop with xCode, it's very simple to do SQL-related things in Java thanks to the JDBC interface it comes with. If you want to do some SQL development on the Mac, I'd highly recommend learning how to use JDBC because it abstracts out many of the finer details of databases, letting you focus on doing what you want done.

Credit cards and MACS... togather again

Hello everyone,

It is with great pleasure that I present to all of here in this thread and to all Mac Users: TakeCharge, a credit card processing software that works with Mac OS X. TakeCharge can handle all forms of transactions from simple credit cards to recurring billing charges and ACH check transactions, easily and securely straight from your computer. With features previously available only in enterprise level products, this software can be used in places like fast food restaurants, retail outlets and lodging. The consumer will be able to purchase the product with a credit or debit card, eliminating the hassle of cash transactions.

it would be nice if i can integrate it with Filemaker

... now if UPS would make a Mac version of their WorldShip application

Sorry, but it kinda bugs me when someone asks a question concerning possible demand for software he's making, and then a company selling the same product swoops in and hijacks the thread from him.

And yes, Filemaker integration is a key feature to include. ;)
