Apple regularly adds new games to Apple Arcade, and this week's addition is Crossy Road Castle, made by Hipster Whale, the developer behind the popular Crossy Road game.

Crossy Road is an endless Frogger-style game where the goal is to get various animals and characters across the road, but Crossy Road Castle, which was announced back in October, is a cross between an endless runner and a platformer.

Crossy Road Castle uses a similar art style as Crossy Road, with players guiding characters through a castle that's rife with enemies and obstacles to overcome. The goal of the game is to climb as high into the castle as possible.

Crossy Road Castle can be played solo, but there's also a cooperative mode that allows multiple players to brave the castle using several game controllers or multiple iOS devices.

As with Crossy Road, gameplay will unlock new characters to play. Hipster Whale says that new towers and characters will be introduced regularly.

Apple Arcade subscribers can download Crossy Road Castle from the App Store as of today. Apple Arcade is priced at $4.99 per month and provides users with access to more than 100 games with no additional fees or in-app purchases. Crossy Road Castle can be played on iPhone, iPad, Apple TV, and Mac.

With some of the sounds reminiscent of Super Mario Brothers. :p

Those graphics look like someone puked up grape juice. I can’t even tell what’s going on.

You're looking at a single screen grab of one level. Motion adds a whole new dimension, so your concerns are not that valid. Maybe try the game and then let us know what you think?

Yeah, the graphics make it very hard to see what’s going on. I did try it.

This looks fun but I do hope the devs don't start a new angry birds trend, and come up with new original games too.

lol...

I dunno what to make of it either... Weather i should be sad it came to Arcade, or weather Apple wants you to play games on a TV set.

Leave it to iPhone and tablets.

Yeahhh finally! Can’t wait to play it, me and my friends were waiting for it, we will scream 🤣

I really don't understand what the point is of pixelizing modern games. It adds NOTHING to the gameplay, in fact it makes it hard to see what's what.

There's a reason why hardware has advanced to the point that you don't have to make things pixelated on purpose.

It's an artistic and aesthetic choice.

No one asks you to appreciate it no matter what, but there are people who like this style and it's often chosen for a purpose.

Not everything has to be photorealistically rendered in 8K.

Yep Crysis eat your heart out, this is what I want to play!

Yep. Doom Eternal and Cyberpunk 2077 are nothing compared to this. I totally see myself paying 5 bucks per month to play such retro games. Xbox (including Xbox streaming) and PlayStation are doomed!

It's not as if Sony's and Microsoft's stores are drowning in games like this one for a buck a piece or so...
If you want chaotic, stressful games like this, then this is how it's done in style:

Can’t tell if sarcasm or trolling.

I guess it's sarcasm. But I do understand the point when seeing the caliber of games that are available on Microsoft's Xbox Game Pass subscription or the games that are on EA's Origin which also offers a subscription service. At the same time, the big difference is that Apple is aiming for games that should run also on iOS, not just consoles and PC which generally have more powerful (graphics) hardware.

The allure of this is the multiplayer, I haven’t tried it but I already know the simplistic play and goofy sounds along with characters dying is going to be fun to play with the kiddos...akin to Super Mario bros

I tried it. It's fun in a Chuckie Egg kind of way. Also I could easily see what was happening in case anyone was worried.

Funny?

Still, it’s a shameless rip off frogger, essentially the same game from 1981.

Original content only, right Apple..
Snake next?
