Hello all.

I recently purchased a Crucial M225 256 GB SSD. It has the 1819 firmware installed, and I would like to instill the 1916 firmware because it supports garbage collection.

I have followed the instructions on the Crucial website, and have created a boot CD to upgrade the firmware. When I boot from the CD to do the firmware upgrade, my computer completely freezes. It only starts working after a hard reset.

Does anyone have any experience upgrading the firmware on an M225? Any advice to give?

Thanks

Are you trying to boot the cd on a Mac? You may need to use a Windows based computer to do that. And remember, Mac OS X does not support TRIM or garbage collection.

The firmware has garbage collection, so the OS doesn't need to support it.

I am booting the CD on my mac.

Has anyone successfully done this? I've looked on the crucial forums and they've been little help.

Intell answered your question: you can't do it on a Mac. The conclusion, of course, is to use a Windows computer to do the firmware upgrade.
