I just installed this drive in my 2010 Macbook Pro. Using Trim Enabler benchmark, my Sequential Read time is 240 MB/s and my Sequential Write time is 261 MB/s. Why is this so much slower than the advertised 500 MB/s Read and 400 MB/s Write time?

The advertised speeds are for SATA3 systems only. Your 2010 MBP only has SATA2, so those speeds are normal.

SATA3 drives are compatible with SATA2 systems, but will only operate at SATA2 speeds.

Saturday I will put a Samsung 840 EVO SSD in my niece;s 2010 7,1 Macbook. I have already upgrade memory from 2GB (joke) to 8GB. I have told her the SSD is the last practical thing to give a little more life to her MB. The next improvement....a new Macbook. I think you need to plan for the same next step in the a year or two.
