Reading the anadtech review of my Crucial M500 SSD I stumbled upon an entry on "on the fly" encryption. Big question is it compatible with Mavericks' FileVault 2?
 
No, because the on-the-fly encryption uses your BIOS set hard drive password which the Mac doesn't have.

But you should notice very little performance penalty with newer Macs that support AES-NI.
 
As alphaod stated its not Mac compatible, so FV2 is the best on the fly encryption/decryption we Mac users have. I'd say overall it does its job and the performance hit is not that bad
