Available in US on 11/21 for $99.99.
I'm tempted to get one of these. Haven't had a Nintendo handheld since the Gameboy Pocket.
Just can't decide which color looks best, kinda leaning towards the blue one!
Anybody else thinking of picking one up?

You're right. Both do look pretty darn good. I'd be going for the blue since that's my favorite color, as well as preferring sapphire over ruby. I'd consider picking one up, but those New 3DS's are hopefully going to be coming to the US next year. Maybe then Pokemon will run a little smoother during battles.

I've considered the "New" 3DS as well. I had originally thought about and planned to get a 3DS XL this year but decided against it after reading up on the New 3DS and all of it's improvements. I don't really want to spend $199+ on the current 3DS XL when I'll be able to get a better "New" 3DS XL in maybe 6 months for the same, or perhaps less, money.
I'm still tempted by the $99 2DS since I wouldn't be out too much if I do decide to get a New 3DS XL some time next year. There's also a good chance I'd end up liking a 2DS enough not to bother with getting a New 3DS XL, at least right away.

That's true. I'm upset about my current 3DS, the darned right shoulder button doesn't activate 90% of the time. It needs the perfect angle and amount of pressure to trigger, and I haven't quite figured it out yet. Thankfully Pokemon and Animal Crossing don't need it, and SSB allowed me to remap the shield. When I finally get around to KH I can just use my circle pad pro to override that button. So this works, but it'll be nice to switch to a fully working system.

I'm very much into rare and modded Gameboys, but there's something about these that I don't want. I think it's because it's a 2DS, and with the New 3DS around the corner too... but I do hope it starts a new trend of having transparent handhelds again.

I'll probably regret it down the line when they start going for crazy money second hand!

(edit: I wonder if the sections of the 2DS display (since it's one screen) that are masked have no backlight on them, or even if there's a way of doing that. I wonder if the light from it will flood out into the case?)

Did you mod the color yourself? I know you had put that charizard on the sp, but I've only seen the backlit colors like twice before. I never got a chance to hold or purchase a micro either, which saddens me. Good question about the 2DS display, I'd be interested to know as well, for no reason in particular.

I doubt Nintendo would release them if the whole case lit up. It would be neat, for a while, to have a glowing red or blue 2DS but I imagine it would get annoying pretty fast - especially at night with the lights off.

Does it bother either of you guys that the the wireless light shines so brightly through the front in the pictures? Hopefully it's just exaggerated, but wouldn't that get annoying when playing games in anything but bright light? I know the flashing from it on the current 3DS is pretty noticeable, and couldn't imagine the effect if it was facing you.

Also, did the 2DS get the most recent updates? The one that allows themes and changed the home menu around a little bit?

Any idea how it is on the standard 2DS models? It would maybe be annoying. I remember being about blinded by the glowing green X on my 360 controller the first time I used it at night. Eventually I got used to it. Might be a different story on the 2DS since you'd be looking at it the entire time, whereas the 360 controller isn't really in your line of sight constantly..

I've had to put black tape over my DSi lights so that just a tiny bit pokes out. Was considering going in and putting in some darkening film on the inside but I don't want to risk breaking anything. Tape's your best friend if it's too bright! On my original Gameboys I've opened them up and sanded down the LED to make it less bright.

The 2DS is just a 3DS so there's no reason why themes won't work.

Yeah they're all my own work. The GBC was a rare(ish) Japanese Crystal GBC with a backlight from my broken GBA SP. Micro's are really neat. They're just so simple and little, and it's great playing epic RPGs on them for some reason. Got 3 so far, wouldn't mind a Black one (only released in US) but I've got enough for now!

I ended up getting a standard Crimson Red 2DS yesterday. Walmart.com has them for $99 (online or in store pickup) so I decided to stop at Walmart and get one while I was in town, since it would be probably 2-3 weeks before I got back to town. I do like the red/black design just as much as the clear red and blue design so I figured I'd just get one now and be done with it.

Funny thing is the cashier had to price match their own website since the 2DS' are priced at $129 in store. Doesn't make too much sense to me but whatever, they had no problem price matching so all good.

The 2DS is smaller than I thought but not too small. Comfortable to hold.

No games for it yet, those should be here Tuesday or so. I took advantage of the buy one get one 50% off sale on 3DS games BestBuy.com was doing last week and ordered Zelda OoT 3D and Pokemon Y :)

That's what I was figuring. Nintendo just needs to update their marketing pictures to show that off a little bit more.

That's really cool. I doubt I'll ever actually try to track down a Micro. I'd imagine that people that do sell them are asking for more than they're worth since they're older systems and weren't overly popular IIRC.

Glad to hear you went and bought yourself one, and that you enjoy holding the thing. Will you be purchasing one of the Ruby/Sapphire remakes? And did you see that they're remaking/remastering/rereleasing Majora's Mask?!?

Yes, probably eventually. I'll need to get through Y first. Haven't played Pokemon in ages. Not since Red, Blue, and Yellow. I got out my Gameboy Pocket the other day and fired up Red. Brings back memories but wow the screen on the old Gameboys was horrible. lol

Yep, I'm excited about that. I never had a N64 back in the day so I never got to play Ocarina of Time or Majora's Mask. Now I'll finally be able to play them and see what the fuss is all about!

Funny you should say that, just today I saw a preview of a Pikachu theme advertised on a 2DS! Maybe they've noticed too and started to show it off?

They're a lot cheaper (at least here) than when they launched. Just got to be sure it's a good quality one. I bought a Pink one for only £30 that was in near mint condition. It's just about being patient enough to wait for a good deal. I got my Micro for half of what they usually go for (£300 here).

They are but they can be fixed! If you're interested in it there's a method called "Biverting". The display is run through a chip that inverts the screen. A backlight and polarising film is installed on the display, that inverts it again. The result is a really sharp screen with much better contrast, it makes it very playable!

Same. Never played it. Always wanted to. Can't wait!

It appears that as long as I avoid Amazon, I can pick one up for around $60. Or a broken one for half that. Pretty sharp looking systems though =)

That does look sharp. I want one! =P

Last time I played MM must've been like 2001. I was terrible at it, and was too afraid of the enemies to do the dungeons (I was a big scaredy cat in games). But I remember having fun running around and collecting the masks. I must've done everything you possibly could in town and done basic exploration outside it. Heck, I had gotten a mask or two that my friend, who had beaten the game, couldn't figure out how to get without a strategy guide. =D
