I just got a version of Cubase recently. I have never used a pro audio app and this infact would be my very first audio app.

I was wondering if I could use cubase to edit and mix mp3s. By mix i mean, overlay beats on whatever mp3 songs i have, or loop certain section and use that as a base line and overlay another portion on it etc.

I want to make sure it can import MP3 files or AAC, as all my music is in that format. Im just a casual user and I dont need the best quality etc.

I'm not sure, but most of the higher MIDI/audio systems will only import aiff, wav and SD11 files directly to the edit page, but I'm no great SX user, I use ProTools and Logic, which won't import mp3's.

Try converting your mp3's to aiffs in iTunes, making the edit, then re-importing into iTunes as an mp3. It's a bit long winded, but it'll work.
