Hey I just got a cuckoo clock and spent an hour putting the chains back together after the dog got at it... :eek:
Anyway, how do you set it up properly with its weights and everything? I can see how the one weight stays stationary and keeps the clock ticking, but how does the other weight work?? Thankxxx

I'm no clock expert, but I'm pretty sure that if you have two weights they're both driving the cogwheel - or whatever that ratchety-thing's called - from opposite sides. Then the weights go down slowly, driving the works.

So, I'm pretty sure that you have to wind up both weights so the chains are wound up on their spools, and probably start the pendulum swinging if it has one.

Anyway, that's how every mechanical action clock I've ever seen works.

Ok, just one side moves freely; it's not hard to pull its chain, and when you add the pulley, it drops straight to the ground... which is bad. The other side which is the one that got pulled is still fine so I'm not sure what's wrong. Cheers

Huh. I don't know why that would be, unless the ratchet that controls the release of the weight isn't making contact with it's cogwheel.

I don't suppose the thing came with a manual?

About the weights/chains

Hello;

there are cuckoo clocks with 2 or 3 pinecones. One pinecone operates the time, one operates the cuckoo call/cuckoo bird, and if it has 3 weights the 3 operates the musicbox and some animation.

If your clock keeps time, but the other chain/weight doesn't move, then most likely the cuckoo is not coming out, because the chain is of the sprocketwheel.

Here you can find a procedure to get it back on and a list of service stations:
