where would i get the 8gb dimms? on apple only goes to 32 Gb
computer i listed is 48 expandable to 96
There are several current threads on the best way to upgrade memory.
OWC is the most common but newegg sells it also. 64GB will cost you $2800.

that is good to see, to bad it puts me at about 7900 (VS 7300) bucks for 64 RAM + I end up with the useless sticks of RAM apple ships with computer.
I guess if i really want to stay with mac pro it could be worth it...i just get sick of paying more

Not quite useless...OWC offers a rebate if you buy RAM from them. Only $9 a stick for the 1GB modules that come stock, but at least it's something. Think of it as a start to recuperating that extra $600
Do you actually need that horsepower or are you just trying to beat your mate's system or something?
no i need it, I am maxxing out on some video projects (nle doesn't matter)...just need more juice all around
What kind of software do you use?
I haven't seen Avid Media Composer or Final Cut Pro ever taking that much RAM, After Effects might be different, but that is quite a stretch.
on bootcamp windows 7 64 bit I use Vegas Pro
(have FCP and PPro but dont like them)

Only dif at that point would be I have 8 core 3.0 VS the newer 12 core stuff
I have been told in my case the processor upgrade wouldn't matter much in the timeline (only rendering)
