Hello. I'm on my second unit of 16 Plus. The first one had a bad screen (brightness was terrible as a Genius stated) so I had a replacement. Today I went back to the Apple Store to check if my new unit had the same problem. After comparing mine with a 16 Plus on display, I noticed mine was again less bright with same settings...but one that I never thought of: Auto brightness in Accessibility. The 16 on the display had its setting turned off, mine was on. The same Genius then told me Apple "has the OS tweaked for the phones on displays to make them pop and sell more". Can't believe I was told that but actually turning Auto brightness Off makes the screen illuminate. Which is bad for the battery as per the warning. Why would Apple do that? The Genius told me he found this information cause many customers came back with the same problem as me and they were replacing them each time. One could ever say he was a bit authoritative and even said I was probably lucky. What do you think?

I think Apple relocated the Auto Brightness setting into Accessibility from where it used to be and then made it be on by default. To protect the customer.

Makes sense to me that Apple would turn it off on display devices. The sales those devices generate far outweigh the cost of burning through a few display items. And since Apple made those devices, at their EOL, Apple can simply put in a new battery and/or screen, test the devices and then put them up on the refurbished sale site.

A new battery or screen costs us consumers a bit of money. How much does it cost Apple? Not much I imagine.

why would they not turn brightness to max?
go to any store and look at TVs on display.
you want to show off the best your device can do.
and isn't (red) meat at the grocery store counter/shelf more red than at home or outside?

optics sell stuff ...

Apple Stores are legendary in the world of retail for their success. Every second of the customer experience is studied, refined, and re-evaluated. The store location, the floorplan, the tables, the lighting, the colours & textures, the ambient sounds. I'd kinda be shocked if they didn't have secret settings to max-out the brightness of all the screens. It's not like they just drop products on the tables and hope for the best. Hopefully you're happy with your second iPhone 16 now that you know their secret. ;)

Allo to you all. Yes I'm very happy with my new 16 Plus. Max Pro was overkill for my needs, Pro over my budget and 16 and 16e the 6.1 screen was what I was coming from (11 and 12). I understand your explanations on iPhones on display being very very bright but wow what a difference when you unwrap your precious iPhone at home. I didn't think about TV's at the time. Guess one is so used of this sales gimmick in the world of TV's. Still my old 11 has the brightness screen of them all. 12 and 16 Plus being OLED are definitely less bright.
