I currently have a 3G... Iam thinking of adding a line for my wife. she will take the 3G and Ill ge t a 3Gs. I currently have the 1350 Min plan and pay $149/mo. what can I expect to pay if I do this now and use both phones with the same plan? I am unsure on the increased cost after looking through the material. any thoughts would be appreciated.

You'll pay $9.99 for the second line and $30 for the data on the second line.

Add that to what you're paying now, throw in a couple of bucks for taxes and other fees and presto!

is this true?

I have a family member who wants an iphone, I figure I give my 3g to them and buy the new one

SO I will only be paying $200 for the phone and $9.99 to add a second line?

im currently not eligible for an upgrade until 12/10

im in the same boat so you dont have to pay full price on the 3gs added to the plan right? only 200

I would love a definitive answer on this as well, as I was thinking of doing the exact same thing... Would the 3GS would be at the $199/299 pricepoint even though my (currently single line) account isn't eligible for upgrade pricing? I'd happily upgrade to a family plan (and presumably lock into a new 2 year contract) if I could get the 3GS at the "new customer" price.

Well that is precisely why I asked. If apple wants to EFF me over on the upgrade price. I will kill my wife's, now, month to month phone with Verizon and upgrade to the GS and hand the G to here. BANG ! I beat the system woot... the only thing that makes me so sad is that Verizon has such a vastly superior network. I hate that the iPhone is tied to AT&T.

preach!!

I want to do this as well (it's funny we are all in here taking advantage of wives who have held out on the iPhone just to satisfy our gadget obsessions)!

My question is, if I give my wife the 3G and get the 3GS, can I keep my phone number? If we have to switch numbers, I don't think I will be able to convince her to do this.

My plan was to get the new 3GS and give my girlfriend the 3G.

But, now that I'm not going to be able to get the 3GS for $199, I was thinking of adding her to my plan in order to get the 3GS.

So correct me if I'm wrong here... couldn't I just swap out the SIM cards, and then the 3GS would be MY phone number, and the 3G would be her new one?

Question. Couldn't you add a line, get the new iphone and then cancel it? So instead of $600-700 it would be $200-300 plus ETF. You could then sell the 3G for $350 or so and come out of it about even.

Are your wives / gfs / families all extremely ignorant, or do they just not care about having the newer phone?

If my gf had an iPhone and tried to pull something like this then pass it off as a "deal" I'd punch her right in the babymaker...

Exactly what I will be doing, $299 the $175 ETF.. I have already done this when I lost my 3G. Much cheaper then the retail $699!

My girlfriend is getting a free iPhone 3G from me. She doesn't give a damn where it came from, or if it's only a year old... it's free and new to her, and she's excited.

See the wonderful part of women is that the vast majority are not gadget freaks. My wife is perfectly happy with her motorola Razr circa 1999. I told her of my diabolical plan and she was like Meh ok.... Its a thing of beauty! and next year since I am on offsetting 2 year contracts the original line will be due for an upgrade! voila! im a super genius!
