Has anyone experienced an issue with "stalls" which seem to be associated with USB attached drives? I have always used my usb external drive for time machine and never noticed it before, but with the new machines speed there are times where I hear the external spin up and anything I am doing seems to stall while that happens.

Perhaps a SSD time machine drive is in order? Anyone doing that?

I have a Late 2103 iMac with 3tb drive and four external USB 3.0 drives. Two drives including Time machine are in an ICYDock Raid Case working as two drives and two other drives. The ICY Dock is in a hub and the others in the iMac USB 3.0 I need keep drive spinning app for time machine as it looses connection and stalls if not pinged once in a while.
