Is there any way to change my iPad (activated on a prepaid plan) to a postpaid plan on Verizon's website without having to go to a store, swap a SIM or call CS? I prefer to not deal with humans whenever possible. :D

Can't you do it from the iPad itself?

I don't think so. The cell phone account interface on the iPad seems to be setup only to deal with prepaid plans. Although, it wouldn't hurt to cancel the current plan, then go in and try to set up a new plan, and see if you get a choice to select a post-paid plan. I don't recall seeing such a choice, but then I wasn't looking for it.

Welcome to the "Verizon Made My Ass Bleed" club.

Here's to hours on the Phone with those pricks.

Good luck Bro, you're gonna need it.

Nope, sorry there is not. Once activated on a pre-paid plan a verizon iPad can't be changed to a post-paid plan, at least not with the sim card you currently have. I ran into this problem myself and after several attempts to get a new sim from local verizon stores they refused to give me one unless I had it activated at the Verizon store with pre-paid service only. I ran into the same problem calling verizon and trying to get them to mail one to me.

Yesterday I went to a local Apple Store for help. After they realized there was no way to change from pre-paid to post-paid (they initially thought you could) they tried giving me a new sim card (they had a few extra on hand but told me many stores don't). After several resets, changes to the settings and calls to verizon by the Apple Genius the iPad wouldn't accept the new sim. Two hours later the Genius had talked to his manager, called other stores, and talked to Verizon on the phone but no solution could be found. In the end they returned my iPad (purchased from a Verizon store) and replaced it with a brand new Verizon model from the Apple store.

Don't they also require a 2 year contract with post-paid? That alone will stop me from ever doing it.

No, you can cancel or suspend anytime you want but you have to pay an activation fee when you first set up service through verizon. If you suspend and want to use it again you have to call over the phone to have them start service and then call to have it shut off. If you cancel your account versus suspending it your sim card will be invalidated and never work again. (I found this out the hard way).

This may be a stupid question and forgive me if I am missing something.

What advantages does postpaid have over prepaid? I thought the monthly cost was the same. Plus with postpaid there is usually an activation fee and the taxes and fees are typically higher. I feel like I am missing something or out of the loop.

This is about all I can find, though I do remember reading an article a few weeks back that said something about verizon accounts get a cheaper price for overages but I can't seem to locate anything on that now.

The "roaming advantage" is horsecrap. What network are you going to roam onto, Sprint's? I don't think Verizon even has data roaming agreemens with Sprint, and while I'm sure someone can point to a specific intersection in the middle of nowhere, 99% of places with Sprint coverage also has Verizon coverage.

If you have an existing employer-paid bill, then you might want to add it on to the bill for that reason. I really can't think of any other reason.

One advantage of the post-paid plan might be that if you are not sure if you'll need 3, 4 or 5 GB, you can choose 3 and the overage rate is the same as if you had selected the 5. Then on particular months if you use less, then your bill will be lower. It's a stretch. Pre-paid seems the way to go, if for no other reason than being able to do it all on your device.

Ah, gotcha. Still not real appealing the way I use my device.

Simply cancel the postpaid plan (which will kill your sim) and buy a VZW micro-sim off eBay for around $6 and create a new account. You won't be able re-use the existing sim and getting one from a VZW store was next to impossible because they claim they can't give/sell you a pre-paid sim. This is exactly what I did and it worked flawlessly. https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/1351655/

If you have ATT and a FAN account you can get post paid ipad 5GB for a significant discount.

You do have to agree to a 2 yr deal.

I am not sure why you would like to have it postpaid instead of prepaid.
You can cancel the prepaid account and get a new sim card at the store. However, by doing so, you will no longer view account thru ipad. You will need to log in to VZ site for details.
