Apologies if this a beaten to death topic. Did a quick search and a lot of mixed results, mostly older posts.

At work I have a 13” M1 MBP. Just the plain old M1, not Pro or Max. I have the opportunity to get a 49” ultra wide with 5120x1440 resolution, but I’ve been reading lots of mixed things. Will this laptop be able to drive it? In particular, I’d love to go straight USB-C to USB-C for the power delivery. Trying to eliminate extra cables. Even if I have to use display software to make it work, I’m ok with that. I just want to make sure I’m not stuck with a 1080p resolution if I get this display. Thanks.

(It’s running the latest Mac OS, if that makes a difference)

The 14" MBP were only available with M1 Pro and M1 Max, there was no "plain old M1". The M3 range introduced a low end "plain old M3 not Pro or max".

The tech specs for what I think is your model are here.

"Display support:
  • Up to two external displays with up to 6K resolution at 60Hz at over a billion colors (M1 Pro)"

So that 5120x1440 will be no problem.

Apologies. It’s the 13” with touchbar. I’ll update the post.
