Cursor Misbehaving

I need help for my wife. She has a macbook, and when she is in word or e-mail, and she pushes the shift button to capitalize a letter, periodically the cursor jumps to another location, or at times deletes the previous word.

I've asked her if she may be inadvertently hitting another key, but she assures me she is not.

Can anyone give us some advice?

Have you tried rebooting first to see if it still occurs? Otherwise have a look here
