With most of the past few days covered in Apple Watch shipping news, the build-to-order version of the new 12-inch MacBook has flown slightly under the radar. But, this morning, Apple began updating customers who opted-in for the 1.3GHz model of the notebook with shipping dates almost two weeks earlier than initially expected.

First given a vague 3-4 week shipping estimate by Apple, the 1.3GHz MacBook has now received a delivery estimate as early as the middle of next week for some customers in the United States. The build-to-order option took slightly longer to ship than the basic 1.1GHz and 1.2GHz models due to its custom upgrade processor parts.

Those two regular models of the notebook began shipping out to customers soon after its April 10 launch alongside the Apple Watch. Although many expected the new MacBook to be sold in Apple retail locations, the company opted to keep the 12-inch Retina device mostly to its online storefront for the time being.

People will still complain about the wait even thought BTO typically have a long waiting period at launch.

You clearly haven't been following this release. People who ordered stock config in Europe and elsewhere still haven't had their orders ship..

The whole thing has been crazy to watch. People never cease to amaze me.

You'd think these watches and laptops were vaccines for threats to humankind.

I'm gonna kickback, relax and I'm sure I'll receive my watch by the 8th of May as estimated.

My friend has one of these MacBooks on order, really looking forward to trying it. Think I'll be upgrading my 2011 MacBook Pro with either 2nd or 3rd Gen of these.

It's gorgeous, and it's probably a bit faster than my 7.5 year old iMac, but I'm looking to replace my iMac with something a lot faster, not a bit faster. Holding out for Skylake MBPs.

Yes I have been following it. This article is about the BTO shipping, not delays with a stock models.

I agree completely! I was thinking of getting the Broadwell rMBP, but with Skylake just around the corner and not a solid update to 4k Output (I'm looking for 4k at 120Hz minimum, PREFERABLY with either HDMI 2.0 or Updated Mini Display Port) I can't justify to retire my Mid '07 iMac either1 It's been running like a champ!! I've only had to replace the Hard Drive and up the ram to the max of 6gb.

CHEERS to well build machines!! :D

Im thinking a Skylake rMB might be my masters graduation gift to myself next year :D Will be interesting to see the benchmarks for next years computers vs this years.

I can't see spending $1550 for an underpowered MB with one port. I'm torn between getting a 13" MBP this year and Skylake next year. I'm excited about the promise of Skylake's performance but I'm terrified that they will take a hatchet to the MBP's ports/magsafe like they did with the MB this year.

Uk???

Anyone in UK seen any movement on their 1.3 MB order? I bought mine within 5 minutes of them going live but still no movement. No credit card charge yet and order still says processing. Getting seriously anxious!!!

I love most apple products...

this laptop however was a bag of bad ideas. the ONLY thing better about this computer than the air is the retina screen. You are paying more money for less. Nice con job Tim.

Everyone here knows this laptop is a HUGE profit grab. ptice point should have been the same as the maxed ipad.

Yeah i can't wait to see what redesigns take place. I like the MacBooks design but that one port is a deal breaker just because I need to drive two displays and have a usb port or two. But if the new MBP takes design cues with Skylakes performance that going to be a very popular laptop. Even if it was adopted into the MacBook Air. I guess WWDC will tell. If not looks like we have to wait till October.

It would say it's most certainly enormously faster than a 7.5 year iMac, even with the Core-M processor. Compare Geekbench scores for you iMac with the new MacBook. You have to remember the new MacBook has faster RAM and of course an SSD compared to an old iMac.

I believe the RAM in the MB is still 1600 DDR3. The RAM in the 13"MBP is 1833 DDR3

Nice, feel better now? Everyone who ordered one is stupid, moronic, easily duped by the big capitalist pigs and shouldn't be allowed to choose their own underpants in the mornings, all those decisions should be left to people like you, right? Got it, thanks for letting us know! :p

Looks like my UK one is being prepared for dispatch. :)

Got mine on Monday!!

Got my Space Grey - 1.3MHz - 512SSD delivered here in Australia on Monday.

I LOVE it - keyboard is great - screen fantastic - design wonderful. I've got 2 x 64Gig 12 core MacPros (1 big box and 1 little black cylinder) for the heavy duty graphics work. MacBook is perfect for writing and travel.

All those sad people who are sending theirs back and complaining always complain and yearn for the good old days when we paid hundreds of dollars for a single sided 5 1/4" floppy drive and a person had to walk in front of wear car with a red flag.

Need a few adapters now - just got email saying USB adapter is in the post from Apple. Already got adapter to allow battery charger to plug in and a SanDisk Type C Drive 32 GB Dual USB Flash Drive on their way from the US and the UK.

I ordered the same model as you, but on the first day available - 10th April.
I'm in Australia - which showed as 3-4 weeks between 4th and 10th of May. But it was despatched on April 24th and arrived on Monday 27th.

At the same time, I also ordered a USB-C to USB adapter and a USB-C Digital AV Multiport Adapter which showed as delivering between the 6th and 13th of May. Last night I got an email saying the USB-C to USB adapter is on its way with Australia post and I'm expecting it either Friday or Monday (As soon as Australia Post are involved delivery times are slower than Apple+TNT for bigger things because Australia Post are expensive and crap)

So I'm still waiting for an update on the multi-port adapter.

I ordered a USB-C to USB adapter too. It was also ordered on the 21st and it arrived on April 24th.
