iOS custom app background

Hello to all. I am experimenting with a project to display a .jpg or some other picture format as the background of my app. I have played around with the color setting and all that in IB but when it comes to select the picture, it only shows a majority color from the picture. How can I have it display the detail of the pic if it is possible. Thanks
