Without jailbreaking my iphone how can I use my own sounds/music I made as my text alerts sounds?

As far as I know... you don't
It would require a jailbreak

Perhaps in iOS 5, but don't hold your breath

darn :( it's a too bad there is no jailbreak out unteethered for ios 4.3 yet...

not to get off topic but doesn't a tethered one require a computer for every phone reboot?

Those aren't available on the 3GS. God forbid Apple from supporting a product it currently sells & is capable of having additional text tones (i.e. 3GS' hardware isn't an issue for more sounds).

What is wrong with these? Are you serious? They are the worst sounds I've ever heard in my life. It sounds like they watched a cartoon for an hour and stole all their sound effects. I would be embarrassed to have my phone make a choo choo sound in front of a bunch of people... If Tri-Tone did not exist, my phone would not have a text message sound.

put yourself in there shoes, then read your post again.

calypso is fine. the rest are stupid.

I agree, I work in the world of business and a lot of the tone would be embarrassing to me. Would love to see notifications completely redone in the iPhone 5! Blackberry does have Apple beat here for sure!:p

Nothing more embarrassing then sitting in a meeting and hearing your phone go CHOOO CHOOO in front of fellow co-workers.

I bet. But I'd hope (and wish in all business settings) people's phones are set to vibrate. Regardless of it being the latest Ke$ha song or the AT&T ringtone, vibrate at work is always preferred by others.

No doubt. I have been to many or a board meeting where phones are "surposed" to be turned off and all of a sudden we got rap music!:p

Never from my phone.

I just wish that Apple would make it more easy to put new ring tones, etc on your device. On my Blackberry I could email it to myself and be using it in just minutes! Can't do that on my iP4.
