Custom tones

The last few days, my custom tones I made with garage band that have worked without incident until recently, have for no good reason failed to work as usual. At times, the odd custom tone works, but no soon do they stop working. I've powered down, reset (home & power button) and even reset the contacts to original tones then re added the custom tone.
iPhone 4S running the latest software.
