Customise long press character selection

Is there a way to change which characters come up when you long press keys?
Like when you long press 'a' it will bring up 'ä' 'â' 'à' and so on.
When using the Icelandic keyboard, long pressing 't' will offer 'þ'. How can I make this shortcut work on the English keyboard?
