Customize Recent Items Menu

Hi everyone,
Is it possible to customize the recent items menu so that only .doc or .xls files will appear, instead of say .pdf, .mp3, etc.?

not through any native finder preferences that I know of. But in spotlight preferences, you can re-adjust the order that results are presented in to put documents first.
