Hi everybody. i've been a reader of this site since the long gone days of Steve Jobs leading apple's innovation think thank but this is my first post as a member of the forums.

Recently i've updated my mid 2010 Mac mini from Snow Leopard (i know!) to High Sierra. So far this has been a smooth trip without any of the common bugs reported over here. My question is regarding the annoying and quite frankly childish aesthetic of the new system icons. In my opinion a tool for creation such as the mac, should have a refined look without feeling that a group of toddlers was comisioned to design something that the users see everyday such as those ugly icons.

In the past applications like Candy Bar or Litelcon helped to customize quite easily any system icon, but now in High sierra none of those options seems to work. Have you guys found a solution for this kind of customization?

Thanks a lot!

liteicon, and you have to disable SIP (google it) first; you do that, reboot, change system & default icons, then, after confirming that's worked, rebookt re-enabling SIP. pretty simple, really.

Yes, LiteIcon still works fine, except it recommends not changing drive icons anymore. Keep in mind with SIP enabled, for the vast majority of apps, anytime there is an update your icon will revert to the original and you'll have to disable/enable SIP again (and again and again).

final updates have reverted some icons, but (at least) the betas are not doing that. so no big deal, really.

the betas don't revert icons, so it's not a constant process... and therefore not a big deal.

I was referring to app updates in general, not beta updates. And for some people (i.e. me) it is a relatively constant process since if even one icon changes I re-theme it. That's why when I did theme my Mac I would leave SIP off.

what do you mean by 'constant'? final point updates don't happen that often... or, when you say 'app' updates, do you mean 3rd-party apps? i basically change a bunch of system icons, and a few 3rd-party app ones, so it's not too crazy to keep them updated.

Yes, I mean 3rd party apps too. I make my own themes so I literally change every single icon. "Constant" was a bit of an exaggeration.

ah, and that's a significant undertaking (changing all icons). ultimately, we get to decide what matters most, and if it's worth the effort. have fun!

Thanks everyone!
Disabling SIP-customizing via LiteIcon-Enablig SIP has worked wonderfully...no more toddler drawn system icons.

Fun times!
