Customizing The Appearance of OS X 101

I'll admit it. I'm a noob when it comes to any personalization outside of what system preferences offers me. What programs / features do you all use to customize the look of your OS X desktop? Are there themes that can be downloaded?

CandyBar, SuperDocker, Hyperdock, Onyx, and GeekTool are a few customization apps. If you want different icons I recommend this site or a quick google search.
