iOS Customizing UISplitView (or alternative?)

Hi.

Im wondering what the best approach would be, to make a similar split view as this:

Is the above link a splitview or just a normal view, with more views on top?

What i need done, is pretty much like that screenshot, except i need the possibility to move the right "calendar" frame to the left, so it fills the whole screen - if the left frame needs to be hidden..

Design wise, what would be the best solution, also so its possible to easy overlay it with a customized look, like that book 'look-and-feel'?
