so I installed green poison and cydia downloaded and when it was done installing the icon is only half a cydia icon, and now when i launch cydia it just bombs right after i click the icon.... ideas? It won't let me redownload it as it says it's already downloaded.

Either do that or wait a little for the initial rush of new JB and cydia downloads to die down.

I used redsnow 0.9.6b4 and it totally screwed me up. I selected INSTALL CYDIA ONLY and it totally re-jb'd my device using tethered JB... dohh back to square one... not a solution... unless I'm doing something wrong...

After download, run the redsn0w and then just select install Cydia. Then run GP if you didn't jailbreak with GP yet.
When I do this it says wrong firmware bundle selected, there's no option to just install cydia.
EDIT- I think I'm downloading the wrong thing... am I supposed to be downloading "redsn0w_mac_0.9.6rc8" ? If this is so, then i load it, load the IPSW, then check INSTALL CYDIA only right? And this won't re-JB again right? It's still asking me to go into DFU and all that, last time I did that it screwed it up. UGH.

You ran redsn0w first and greenspois0n over it right? Did GP change the pineapple boot logo to the skull?
I ended up running GP, then to get Cydia I ran the redsn0w. It looked like it was doing the normal JB thing, but since I only did cydia with it, it didn't touch anything else, preserving the GP jailbreak, and the animated skull boot logo.
Works like a charm now.... spent all night downloading all my cydia packages again... I have a list but it seems to take forever would be so amazing to have an app that reliably (yeah I know pkgbkup and appbackup, but I said reliably,lol) saves all my installed cydia apps somehow, so it's easier to re-install, but oh well, it's done now
