cydia not auto saving SHSH anymore

My iPad has been jailbroken since 3.2 and cydia has them all saved up until 4.3.
Is there a reason cydia has stopped saving my shsh?

Also if upgrading to iOS 5 on iPad first gen can i downgrade back to 4.2.1 (what i am on now) if i miss the unteathered jailbreak?
